Ginger There are many health benefits of ginger because the root contains vitamins, principally A and niacin, as well as minerals and amino acids. Surprisingly to some Ginger also has a rather high amount of protein.

Some of the health benefits are indicated in studies that have shown that the combination of green tea and caffeine with ginger can be effective for weight loss. Extracted juice of ginger with honey and nutmeg can be taken three or four times a day for coughs. If you have a cold, cut the ginger into small pieces and boil in a cup of water with some garlic.

Studies have now shown that ginger’s anti-inflammatory properties can be accredited to the presence of the substance named Zingibain.

Ginger for Nausea

Gingerol is responsible for blocking the body’s reflex to vomit and also for averting nausea by decreasing oxidative products made in the digestive tract and is particularly effective for motion sickness. Serotonin receptors in the stomach enter into the intestine to cause more nausea but gingerol which is present in ginger blocks this serotonin receptors. Studies in ginger have proved that a gram of ginger was better in preventing motion sickness than 100 milligrams of Dramamine.

Modem science offers every justification for such acclaim. Included in the health benefits under ginger’s extensive protection as a gastrointestinal tonic are its abilities to enhance fat and protein digestion, and increase the growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria.

Ginger seems to not only hinder the absorption of cholesterol, but also stimulates cholesterol conversion to bile acids. Research has shown that berberine, a bitter-tasting, yellow, plant alkaloid with a long history of medicinal use in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, can effectively prevent a fungus that can cause yeast infection, from producing lipase, a pancreatic enzyme that breaks down fats. Turmeric, a tropical Asian plant of the ginger family, has shown that turmeric prevents breast cancer from moving into the lungs. We would be well advised to take into consideration all health benefits and add ginger to our diet!
